Welcome to the Clinton Restaurant, where we’re not only known for Italian cuisine but for the Best Seafood Queens! With history spanning back into the 1800s, our establishment is one of Whitestone’s oldest foundations. For a time, in the mid-1800s, Whitestone was originally called, Clintonville after DeWitt Clinton, the governor of New York. He was instrumental in building the Erie Canal that spans our great city. Clinton was a Queens resident who summered in Whitestone yearly with family. Although the restaurant did not initially have a name, local residents would refer to it as, “The Clinton” and the name stuck. The building was constructed in 1901 and even housed a “speakeasy” saloon during Prohibition times. It’s also known as one of the oldest commercial sites in town.
